"For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My lovingkindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
(Isaiah 54:10)
Sometimes in life, certain things appear to us as fixed and unchangeable, like the mountains and the hills. Yet, according to the Word of God, even they may depart and be shaken. Everything in this world is subject to change: circumstances, relationships, plans, and even the things we once thought were stable.
But in the midst of this changing world, God declares a reassuring truth: My lovingkindness shall not depart from you, and My covenant of peace shall not be shaken.
If we reflect on the word"covenant," we find that it is far deeper than a mere contract.
A contract is an agreement between two parties that can be modified or canceled, such as an employment contract or a lease. It may end if the two parties no longer agree or if circumstances change.
A covenant, however, is a firm promise—a deep commitment that does not change and is not canceled. When the Lord God declares that He has made with us a covenant of peace, it means a steadfast and eternal divine promise that does not change, no matter how circumstances may change.
What is even greater is that this covenant was not merely words, but it was sealed by the blood of Christ through His death and resurrection. The cost of this covenant was the very life of Christ Himself, and its fruit is our salvation and our new life in Him. Therefore, it is an eternal covenant, not limited by time and not ended by circumstances.
Therefore, when we go through times of disturbance in life or feel that everything around us is shaking, we can remember this truth: even if the mountains are shaken, the love of our God is eternal and unshakable, His mercies are constant and everlasting, and His covenant with us stands forever.
So let us pause for a moment and ask ourselves:
Am I living in this covenant with the Lord?
Am I holding on to the promise He has given to everyone who believes in Christ?
Am I enjoying the peace of eternal life despite the circumstances?
May your day be blessed and filled with the peace of the Lord.
